The District of Summerland has installed new goose-deterrent lights at the south end of Rotary Beach near the tennis courts, along with two additional units at Powell Beach, to help improve beach conditions and keep waterfront areas cleaner for residents and visitors.

The solar-powered “Away With Geese” deterrents work by emitting a gentle pulse of light from dusk to dawn at eye level with geese. The light disrupts their ability to rest comfortably, encouraging them to relocate to a different habitat without harming wildlife, people or pets.

Because geese prefer to stay in the same location both day and night, this proven and effective solution helps discourage geese from congregating in beach areas over the long term — creating cleaner, more enjoyable beaches for everyone.
