The Summerland Energy Centre, which officially opened in 2023, is a utility-scale solar power and battery storage facility designed to support a more reliable, sustainable and cost-effective electricity supply for the community.
Located on a previously used municipal works yard, the facility combines solar energy generation with battery storage technology, allowing electricity to be generated during sunny periods and stored for use when demand is higher.
Project Benefits
Renewable energy generation: A 412 kW solar array generates electricity to supply the local electrical grid.
Energy storage: A battery energy storage system provides up to 1MW of power output and 3.56 MWh of storage capacity
Cost management: Stored energy can help reduce peak electricity demand and wholesale power costs.
Grid resilience: The facility supports a more flexible and resilient electricity system.
Sustainable land use: The project transforms a previously used municipal site into a renewable energy facility
The Summerland Energy Centre represents an important investment in the community's energy future, supporting local electricity generation, responsible resource management and long-term energy sustainability.
