The District of Summerland removed the existing pier at Gordon Beggs Rotary Beach due to safety concerns identified in a condition assessment report.
Funding for a new “basic” pier, similar to the previous structure, was secured through the Growing Communities Fund. Design work was completed, followed by the required Ministry review and approval processes.
The Summerland Rotary Club took a leadership role in engaging the community and raising funds for additional enhancements, which may be considered in future waterfront improvement projects.
A community survey was conducted over the summer to gather feedback on priorities for pier enhancements. A summary of the survey results is available here: Pier Survey Summary (PDF).
All proposed design features were subject to Ministry and environmental approvals, as well as detailed reviews of water depths and safety considerations.
