Field 96 Opens Thanks to an Incredible Community Effort

The District of Summerland was proud to take part in the official opening of Field 96 on Saturday, April 18, 2026, alongside the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen, the City of Penticton, and the Summerland Minor Baseball Association.

During the event, Mayor Doug Holmes and Council presented a $185,000 cheque to match the grant awarded through the Toronto Blue Jays Field of Dreams program. This funding, confirmed last May, supported a community-led fundraising initiative launched by Melissa and Jeff Taylor in honour of their son, Hendriks, who passed away in 2024 at the age of 16.

The project has resulted in significant upgrades to the baseball field and surrounding area, including site improvements and the installation of a new scoreboard.

The Summerland Minor Baseball Association is now working toward Phase 2 of the project, which includes completing electrical work and installing field lighting. These enhancements will allow for evening games and practices, further benefiting local athletes and the community.

The District of Summerland extends its sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to making this meaningful project a reality.
