We’re pleased to share the latest progress on the Wharton Street Revitalization Project. Construction is moving along very well, with the project now 94% complete based on budget spent.
• All underground electrical and communication work from Kelly to Victoria is complete (power poles and lines will be removed in a future phase).
• Upgrades to storm, water, and sanitary systems are complete.
• Installation of structural soils and Soil Cells to support existing and future trees along Wharton is complete.
• The Cenotaph has been dismantled and rebuilt in its new location.
• In the alley parallel to Victoria: watermain, electrical work, and paving are complete.
• The Main Street / Victoria Road intersection is now complete and open to the public.
• Electrical work from Kelly to Rosedale on Wharton and along Smith Street is complete.
• All major paving is complete.
• Work at Veteran’s Memorial Square is largely complete, including seating areas, misting system, planting beds, pavers (except around the washroom), and the busking stage.
• Landscaping at Veteran’s Memorial Square.
• Preparation for the installation of the new public washroom.
• Electrical work near the electrical sub-station.
• Continue electrical work near the sub-station through December.
• Begin work on Henry Avenue to prepare for the washroom installation.
• Complete landscaping, surface finishing, and catenary lighting on Henry Avenue.
• Install the public washroom in early January (weather dependent), followed by final paver installation and catenary lighting.
Some landscaping and planting will be completed in the spring to ensure optimal growing conditions.
