Summerland Moves to Drought Level 3

The District of Summerland has elevated its water drought status to Level 3 due to ongoing dry weather and significantly reduced streamflow and reservoir levels. Current monitoring shows that water supplies are under increasing stress — and proactive conservation is needed to protect our community’s water resources and local ecosystems.

Low precipitation over the summer and early fall has created very dry conditions. Reservoir data indicates that both domestic and agricultural water supplies could be affected in 2026 if drought conditions continue. Moving to Level 3 now helps stabilize our water supply while ensuring essential needs for residents, businesses, and farms are met.

Stage 3 watering restrictions are now in effect under the Water Utilities Bylaw:

🏡Even-numbered addresses: Water lawns, trees & shrubs before 9 a.m. or after 6 p.m. on Sunday.

🏡Odd-numbered addresses: Water lawns, trees & shrubs before 9 a.m. or after 6 p.m. on Saturday.

💧Micro-irrigation, drip irrigation, or hoses with shut-off nozzles may be used for trees, shrubs, or vegetables any day, anytime.

🚫Do not use a hose to wash vehicles, sidewalks, or driveways — except with a hand-held container or shut-off nozzle.

Mayor and Council urge all residents and businesses to conserve water wherever possible. Small steps make a big difference — reduce lawn watering, fix leaks, and turn off hoses when not in use to help preserve Summerland’s water supply for essential needs and fire protection.

Thank you for doing your part to help protect Summerland’s water resources.
