This October (27-31), a specialized company will be conducting a leak detection program on sections of The District of Summerland’s water distribution system.
In preparation for the program, a student will be performing preliminary work around town. He will be traveling in a District truck, using a metal detector and shovel to mark valves and approximate locations of water lines. All work will be conducted on public property.

Our water system includes approximately 200 km of pipelines, 5,600 service connections, and 575 hydrants. Leak detection is a systematic search for water leaks, which goes beyond visible leaks and uses electronic equipment to identify and pinpoint underground leaks.
Benefits of the leak detection program for our community:
• Helps conserve water and reduce water loss

• Ensures the reliability and safety of our water supply

• Identifies issues early, reducing costly repairs and service interruptions
If you see someone walking around the neighborhood with big headphones on — it’s totally normal and part of the process!
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to keep our water system safe and efficient.
