Construction on the Wharton Street Revitalization project will begin on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. In preparation for the start of construction, crews will be working in the area to install fencing and barricades to ensure the safety of all residents, visitors and workers.
Please be advised that there will be road closures and parking disruptions throughout the construction period. On-site signage will be in place to provide information on alternate routes.
What to Expect:
Starting Tuesday, May 20th:
- Wharton Street: Wharton Street will be closed to traffic from Kelly Avenue to Victoria Road for the duration of the project, with access maintained for local businesses. Parking along Wharton Street will not be available starting May 20.
- Henry Avenue: Henry Avenue between Main Street and Wharton Street will be permanently closed to traffic.
- Kelly Avenue: Kelly Avenue between Main Street and Wharton Street will be closed to traffic temporarily.
- Memorial Park: Portions of Memorial Park along Wharton Street will be fenced off and access to some areas of the park will be impacted. Access to the park from Kelly Avenue and Victoria Road S will be maintained.
There will be no parking impact to the upcoming Spring Fling Car Show on May 17 at Memorial Park. Starting May 20th, parking along Wharton Street will be closed, but parking will be available at the Badminton Hall (9600 Brown St), City Hall (13203 Henry Avenue), Summerland Secondary (13205 Kelly Avenue).
Additionally, residents and visitors can expect increased noise and dust in the area while road milling is in progress and throughout the project. At this time, construction will occur between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.
