BC Hydro Cost of Living Credit for Utility Customers

The Province has announced that utility customers will receive a one-time cost of living credit from BC Hydro.

The intent of the program is to help people during these challenging times when global inflation is driving higher costs. The $100 one-time residential bill credit can amount to approximately one month of electricity for a family living in a detached home or more than two months of electricity for a family living in an apartment.

Commercial ratepayers will receive a one-time bill credit based on their prior year electricity consumption.

Customers of Summerland’s Electric Utility will likely begin to see their bill credits applied in the first quarter of 2023. Once the District receives the credit, staff will begin the process of adding the credit to individual utility bills as soon as possible. This manual process may be done over a few billing cycles so please note some customers may receive the credit sooner than others.
