CURBSIDE RECYCLING & GARBAGE COLLECTION

Click here for the 2012 Residential Collection Calendar

Residential Garbage/Recycling/Yard PickUp is contracted out to BFI  and they can be reached at 250-490-3888.

This program is compulsory  and you are not able to “opt out” of it.  The cost for single family residential garbage, yard waste and recycling pick up effective July 1, 2011 with BFI Canada is $11.10 monthly ($9.99 if paid by the due date) and will automatically be added to your utility bill every month.

Please note: Multi-family residences receive municipal collection service for recyclables only and pay $3.00 per month ($2.70 if paid by the due date). The Multi-Family Recycling Calendar is the same as the Residential one.

There will be 10 yard waste pickup dates per year for single family residents.  For yard waste you are required to use a plastic or steel container or a kraft paper yard bag instead of clear plastic bags.  If you are using containers, we have decals available for you to put on them.  By changing this, it eliminates the time of having to debag all the yard waste before it goes into the landfill and cuts down on the plastic being used. Using a container will save you the costs of purchasing bags. Leftover clear bags you had been using can be used for your recycling now.

Everybody recycle!  This compulsory service will significantly reduce the amount of garbage entering our landfill. In addition to preserving landfill space, recycling ensures that materials like paper, plastic and metals are returned to the manufacturing process where they can be made into new products instead of requiring the harvest of raw materials from the environment.

If your garbage/recycling does not get picked up, call BFI Canada at 250 490-3888 or 1-866-998-4888.
