The Summerland Sanitary Landfill is located at 17202 Bathville Road. Regular hours of operation are Monday to Saturday, 8:30 am to 4:15 pm. The landfill is closed on Sundays, Statutory Holidays and on Boxing Day. The landfill is subject to unexpected closure due to fast changing environmental factors.
Effective August 1, 2018 the landfill tipping fees have changed to cover the costs of some of the current waste diversion programs and landfill operations. Please refer to Schedule L - Solid Waste Fees and Charges for current tipping fee information.
Compost is available for purchase at the Landfill, whether you need a container full or a truck load. Please refer to Summerland Compost Information for pricing, further details on what our compost contains, and tips on its uses.
Did you know that the Summerland Landfill Recycling Depot accepts a range of recyclable items? Empty plastic bags, small appliances, styrofoam, glass, e-waste, household hazardous waste (paint, batteries, used oil, etc.), and many more items are all accepted for free as long as they are separated. Please follow the link to find a full list of recyclable items that are accepted at the Landfill Recycling Depot.
Beginning January 1, 2019 the District of Summerland will be accepting "Other Flexible Plastic Packaging" at the Summerland Sanitary Landfill Recycling Depot. For more information on what "Other Flexible Plastic Packaging" is and how to recycle it please click on the link OFPP Flier.
If you have an item that you believe is recyclable but is not accepted in your curbside recycling or at the Summerland Landfill Recycling Depot, please contact the Recycling Council of BC at 1-800-667-4321 or visit their website at www.rcbc.ca to find a recycling location closest to you.
The public is reminded that all loads being taken to the Landfill must be secured and covered - loads that are not will be charged double the regular tipping fee. Please keep our roads free from debris. Your assistance is appreciated!
Please note that the Summerland Sanitary Landfill does not accept material that does not originate from within the District of Summerland or Electoral Area "F". You may be asked to provide proof of residency when entering the landfill.
