Both plastic and metal containers can be returned for recycling, free of charge, to the Summerland Sanitary Landfill Recycling Depot. Return these materials must be separated from other recyclables, including paper and cardboard and put in the designated bin. Materials MUST be CLEAN and DRY.

  • Plastic Containers 

    • YES Bottles, jugs, pails;
    • YES Plastic take-out cups and containers;  
    • YES Plastic garden pots and trays; 
    • YES Empty single use pods (no lids); and  
    • YES Plastic Rigid plastic packaging. 

         
  • Metal Cans and Tins 

    • YES Aluminum or steel cans; 
    • YES Empty aerosol cans (not including spray paint); 
    • YES Aluminum foil; 
    • YES Aluminum take-out containers and pie plates.

Unacceptable Material:

  • NO Spray paint or paint cans;
  • NO Propane cylinders; 
  • NO Containers for motor oil; 
  • NO Cooking oil;
  • NO Packaging labelled biodegradable or compostable; and
  • NO Aluminum or plastic containers that withheld juice or pop (return to bottle depot for refund).

            

Important Information: 

Blue bin recyclables are accepted at the Landfill Recycle Depot, however these materials must be separated into Paper/Cardboard and Containers. Materials MUST be CLEAN, DRY and PROPERLY SORTED.

If you missed your designated collection day for recycling, these materials can be returned for recycling at the Summerland Landfill Recycle Depot.
