SUMMERLAND WATERFRONT CONCEPT PLAN

Project Overview

Through a Request for Proposal procurement process, the District of Summerland has retained LEES+Associates, along with their supporting team, to complete a Waterfront Concept Plan. Based on the 2018 Parks and Recreation Master Plan, the Plan will set the direction for park land, beaches, amenities, swimming and water activities, and infrastructure spanning from Peach Orchard Beach Park boat launch to the south end of Rotary Beach Park and everything in between plus “Horse Beach” (16997 Lakeshore Drive).

Summerland’s waterfront is a highly valuable part of the community’s quality of life, culture, and identity.

The objectives of this project are:

  • Provide a long-term vision for this public parkland and waterfront;
  • Provide direction on park management and protection of habitat;
  • Set priorities for improving park amenities, and
  • Provide recommendations for implementing the plan over the next 10-15 years.

Through site analysis, shoreline condition review, a waterfront safety review, and two rounds of community engagement, the Waterfront Concept Plan outlines a set of recommendations for park design and management improvements for the District of Summerland to pursue over the next 15 years.

On November 14, 2022, Council passed a resolution that the “Waterfront Concept Plan” be endorsed by Council as a guiding plan for consideration for future actions and investments at Gordon Beggs Rotary Beach and Peach Orchard Beach; and that the portion regarding 16997 Lakeshore Drive (“Horse Beach”) of the Waterfront Concept Plan be received for information.
