RE: Japanese Garden
Please find enclosed a request from Darlene Forsdick, Chairperson of the Summerland sister City Committee requesting the District of Summerland have a Japanese Garden. Unfortunately the area at Kin Park already has the Holler Riparian area and is not available. With British Columbia’s new riparian regulations and the background of the Adams Bird Sanctuary it would be difficult to use this area as well.
Before a committee can be struck and budget and design considered an area for this type of project needs to be identified. If we could have a discussion on possible locations for a Japanese Garden we can then direct the Summerland Sister City committee on where to proceed on the project.

RE: Swim Clubs Fee Structure
With the closing of the Penticton Aquatic Centre we have had a major increase in usage in our aquatic facility. This has included the scheduling of three different swim clubs while the new Penticton pool is being built. The three swim clubs are the existing Summerland Orca Swim Club, the Penticton Kisu Swim Club as well as the Penticton Pikes Summer Swim Club. The Summerland Orca Swim Club have been very flexible in sharing pool space to allow the Penticton swim clubs to function during their shutdown period that is expected to be until mid 2011. I have been asked to clarify our fees and charges for these organizations and the following is our existing pool rental policy and rates.
1. Orca Swim Club Rate $6.75 per lane
This is our subsidized local youth rate similar to the local youth system for Summerland Minor Hockey and the Summerland Figure Skating Club at the Summerland Arena
2. General Pool Rental Rates
Under 50 participants $81.00 per hour
Over 50 participants $100.00 per hour
3. Organizations Pool Rental Rates
Kisu Swim Club, Pikes Swim Club, Summerland Triathlon Training, Kayak Training, Penticton & Summerland Special Olympics. $13.50 Per lane
As you can see by our rental rate structure we do not charge any organizations an out of town rate but do have a special local youth rate for the Summerland Swim Club.

RE: Historic Tree at Peach Orchard Campground
Unfortunately the large 100ft high pine tree at the entrance to Peach Orchard Campground has died and is becoming very dangerous. We will not be able to leave the tree especially with its location so close to the campground. Because of its historic nature I would like to leave about 12 feet of the tree and place a plaque describing the heritage of the tree. Also because of its size I will be requesting capital funding in 2011 to have the tree taken down. Your comments on this tree and the proposed process would be appreciated.

RE: KidSport /National Hockey League Players Association Donation
KidSport Summerland is now in full operation and to date over $2775.00 has been given to assist needy children in Summerland to have the opportunity to play sports. In addition the National Hockey league Players Association donated over $3000.00 worth of hockey equipment to KidSport Summerland to assist children with their equipment so they could play hockey in Summerland. KidSport Summerland worked with the Summerland minor Hockey Association to distribute the equipment to appropriate players.
