SUMMERLAND POWER SUBDIVISION AND DEVELOPMENT GUIDELINES

  • A PLR (Preliminary Layout Review) and approval to proceed are issued by Approving Officer. Please see Procedure for Subdivision.
  • Developer is encouraged to approach applicable departments for preliminary servicing dialogue and information regarding materials supplied by Summerland Power. A sketch or proposed plan is required.
  • Summerland Power drafts service drawing.
  • Electrical drawing is circulated to an engineering technician and Engineering and Public Works Superintendent to ensure there are no servicing conflicts.
  • When drawings are approved by the Corporation, copies are submitted to Shaw and Telus for their design. Applicant will receive confirmation that drawings have been submitted to other utilities. It is the applicant’s responsibility to follow up with other utilities to ascertain status of drawings.
  • Telus and Shaw drawings are submitted to the Corporation and reviewed by Summerland Power and engineering technician. A Corporation-approved copy is sent back to Telus (Telus requirement).
  • An electrical cost estimate is prepared and submitted to City Hall along with any other relevant estimates (water, sewer). Deposit in the amount of estimate is required prior to subdivision/development work to be done.
  • Applicant or agent to contact Summerland Power to arrange a pre-construction meeting, preferably on site.
  • Primary contractor to apply for excavation permit. This initiates underground locates. Contractor must supply liability insurance and WCB clearance number on application. Contractor must either have written company safety policy or use the Corporation’s safety policy (form to be filled out). This policy will require an annual update of information.
  • Work to be done by a qualified contractor, ducts to be installed by either an electrician or certified duct installer. Summerland Power to be contacted for duct inspection. This also allows Summerland Power an opportunity to take photographs for records. All road crossings are to be repaired by next business day. A permit application to BC Safety Authority is required. Upon completion of works, the electrical contractor is required to submit affidavit (contractor authorization) and as-constructed drawings to Summerland Power.
  • When work is completed, sign off letter from Shaw and Telus is required.
  • A final inspection is done and deficiencies must be rectified prior to Corporation signing off final approval.
  • All work must have a one year warranty from the time of substantial completion and a maintenance agreement must be entered into.
  • All strata developments must provide the Corporation with a blanket electrical easement.
