Paying your 2009 Property Taxes

For more details about paying your taxes please consult our Property Tax Pamphlet

Property Tax Due Date

Property Tax notices will be mailed the last week of May and payable by 4pm on Friday, July 3rd, 2009. A 10% penalty will be added to the outstanding current taxes after 4pm July 3rd, 2009. Home Owner Grants, if eligible, must also be claimed by 4pm Friday, July 3rd, 2009 to avoid penalty.

Where To Pay Your Property Taxes

Property Taxes are payable at the Municipal Hall located at 13211 Henry Ave. Payment and grant applications can be processed in person, mailed to the above-noted address, or deposited in our secure drop box located at the main entrance of the Municipal Hall.

Property Taxes Paid By Mortgage Company

If your property taxes are paid through your mortgage company you still have to claim the Homeowner Grant yourself. This can be done at Municipal Hall, by fax at 250-494-1415, through our website or by mailing your signed Homeowner Grant portion of your Property Tax Notice. Payments and Grants must be received by 4pm on Friday, July 3rd, 2009 to avoid penalty.

Provincial Home Owner Grant

Claiming your home owner grant is an important part in the process of paying your property taxes. The Home Owner Grant form, located on the bottom of your tax notice, must be completed and returned to the District by the due date. Neglecting to claim your grant by the due date will result in a 10% penalty on the grant amount.  If your mortgage company remits your tax payment on your behalf, ensure that you claim the grant as your mortgagor cannot do this for you.  Ways to claim your Home Owner Grant before the due date: In Person, By Mail, Via Internet.

If you are eligible to claim the Provincial Home Owner Grant and would like to do so on-line, go to www.summerland.ca/vch2  and click on “Home Owner Grant” application.  Enter your 8 digit roll number (no need to enter the first 3 digits 325) and your access code which can be found on top section of your tax notice.  You will be prompted to enter your name, phone number, date and if claiming the additional Grant, to enter your birth date or to specify the applicable category.  Once completed you will receive a confirmation that the Grant has been claimed. Make sure you print the confirmation for your records

You can get information about homeowner grant at Municipal Hall or at Provincial Government website  at  http://www.rev.gov.bc.ca/rpt/.
